Official Trailer: How To Train Your Dragon 2

The 2013 film season closes with a dragon in theaters ("The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug," in case you've fallen asleep at the wheel), and next year, the 2014 summer movie season kicks off with a dragon of its own: a comparatively less toothy beast than the snarling Smaug.

"How To Train Your Dragon 2," DreamWorks Animation's anticipated sequel, flies high into theaters in just six months, and there's a brand-new trailer here to prove it. The film, starring the voices of Jay Baruchel and Jonah Hill, among many others, takes place five years after the original, with the Vikings of Berk coexisting peacefully alongside their new dragon allies.

When the trailer begins, we see just how far along Hiccup and his dragon pal Toothless have come — an impressive distance, as Hiccup lost part of his leg at the end of the first "How to Train Your Dragon," but has since rebounded magnificently.

"Life here is amazing," he narrates as the trailer picks up, showing the viewer how dragons have changed life around Berk: they're used as means of transportation, they play games in the sky with their new Viking friends ... it's a happy existence. "Dragons used to be a bit of a problem, but now they've all moved in. With Vikings on the backs of dragons, the world just got a whole lot bigger."

Indeed, the alliance between Viking and dragons means greater potential for exploration. We see that firsthand in the trailer, when Hiccup and Toothless venture far off into the distance, discovering a masked woman who seems to know a lot about dragons — a woman who reveals herself as Hiccup's mom.

Missing since his birth, Hiccup's mother has been gathering dragons in secret for some time, and she warns Hiccup that "something is coming, something you've never faced before."

Whatever that dark "something" is, it has the ability to drive a wedge between Vikings and dragons again, as the two become "enemies again" by the end of the trailer — and it's up to Hiccup and Toothless to put that conflict to rest once and for all.

"How to Train your Dragon 2" hits theaters on June 13, 2014.
